Community Aquarium 55 glln. #2

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

This tank has Guppies, Serpai Tetra’s, Buenos Aires Tetra’s about 3in long each, Tiger Barb’s, Cory’s, Plecostamus about 9in long, Shark/Catfish 6in long, Giant Danio’s, Blue Gourami’s, and various plants and decorations. Hope you enjoy. They provide hours of entertainment for the entire family. This tank has been setup for about 6 yrs now. I have a Magnum 350 Pro with Bio-Wheel’s and a Topfin 60 filter, doing all the dirty work, and I do 25% water changes atleast twice a week. The lighting is (2) dual 48in long utility shop fluorescent fixtures ($10ea), with (4) 40 Watt “plant and aquatic” bulbs from GE ($10ea). This setup provides a total of 160 Watts of beautiful warm natural lighting. The plants grow great, and the fish look amazing in them. The lighting cost me about $60, versus several hundred if bought commercially. Bought everything I needed at Lowe’s in one trip.

Used Nuclear Fuel – Drying the DSC

Monday, January 4th, 2010

This is an alternate animation showing the draining of the Dry Shielded Canister (DSC) in a Cask Preparation Area that is outside of the Cooling Pond facility. First, the water is pumped out of the DSC through small port in the inner lid of the canister. That port connects to a drain tube installed in the canister which extends to the very bottom of the canister. The water is pumped back to the Spent Fuel Pool where it originated. After the water is removed, a vacuum pump and filtration system remove all the remaining moisture from the Canister. It is then back filled with helium, an inert gas that prevents corrosion and promotes heat transfer. Finally, an outer lid is installed and welded to the canister and a shielding cover is bolted onto the transfer cask.
