The tap water has …
The tap water has chlorine in it, which kills the good bacteria and harms the fish. The bad bacteria grows faster than the good, and the old water has the good bacteria in it, so when you wash it the waste comes off and the good bacteria comes in.

Once you have your tank cycled there bacteria that you have and its good for it and you need it so by rinsing it in tap water is just washing it away and also tap water has chlorine in it , so when u add new water you should have a dechlorinater like ” Stress coat ” to add to the tap water. god, its amazing how someone can be so uneducated. i have well over 100 hours of reasearch for fish. thats why my fish are healthy, colorful, and in a crystal clear, understocked ammonia free aquarium.

This guy is stupid. You’re supposed to clean the sponge in a little bucket of the aquarium water to preserve the bacteria. Cleaning the sponge the way he’s doing it will cause large nitrite/ammonia spikes for a long period of time. Every aquarium hobbyist knows this.
