What is the best faucet mounted water filter. Espeacially for reducing sediment?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I had a PUR but it did’nt do anything for my water.

PUR is actually one of the best on the market if you are getting the right filters for it. They actually remove more from your water than any other faucet type filters. You might want to consider a whole house filter if the water is that bad. You can get a good one at Sears..They are salt filters that you just add salt and the chemical uses salt water to clean itself during the back wash cycle. Depending on how hard and dirty your water is you will have to put in a bag of rock salt anywhere from once a week to every few months. They are easy to install. Just cut into the main water line in the house and hook the incoming water into the inlet and the outgoing line in the other side. Plug it into 110VAC, set it to back wash when it is convenient for you, probably at night while you sleep, and then just enjoy clean water. If it is bad to drink and cook with, it is bad to bath with also.

Is this a good full home water filter?

I have been online and good ones cost a few 1000 and this one is only 400 and a little bigger one is 500 so it is good?

Check out the link below. This is what I have and love it. I pulled the filter part out, ran water with food coloring in it through this filter and my Brita. This water came out 100% clear, whereas the Brita did nothing.

Short of installing a water softener, who do I protect my hair from iron build-up from well water?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I’m trying to grow my hair out, but I have to get it cut often, because iron builds up on the ends of my hair thus making it brittle and prone to split ends. My husband and I have a water filter/softener we are going to install, but is there something I can do in the meantime?

You can get a malibu every month or 2. It strips the buildup from your hair and in between treatments, use a clarifying shampoo.

Ask any stylist for a malibu or go to Sally’s beauty supply.

what is ge smart water filtration?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

i have researched ge refrigerators and some say with smartwater filter and some dont. but when you look at the pictures both have the filter inside in the top right corner. does anyone have any clue i have tried looking on the ge website and nothing. i have even went to appliance stores and even the sales people dont know.

I think its just the new name for their water filtration. I have one on my faucet- its also called GE Smartwater, theres a strip that tells you when the filter needs to be changed…I’m guessing thats what makes it smart???
But compared to the regular Ge filter- it is the same.

Any advice on design/building a drywell to spare my septic from water softener + filter cleaning discharge?

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

My water softener and filter currently discharge (about 97 gallons each week) into my septic system. I heard this was bad for the septic. My septic service co. agreed. The water filter service said this was perfectly safe.
Septics are too expensive to risk a failure. I would like to reroute the discharge to avoid any problems. Any suggestions for a drywell design would be very helpful.
Does the drywell require a vent stack?
How far away from the house do I need to place the drywell?
I live in NH so I need to consider freezing.

It is only water with very minute amount of solids. If you have an acquit leak field the softener flush should not have any effect. You should listen to the water filter people. You are spinning your wheels and are looking to spend money that don’t need to be spent.

I found out iron in water to my apt due to the presence of brown/red stains at sink & bathtub.?

Will a water filter system (faucet or pitchers) be able to remove iron from my drinking water?

A water filter system will work. If you can, I recommend that you buy a water softener tank to install in your apartment (If you can), so you all of your water that comes out from your faucet will be at lease 99.9% clean and free or iron, calcium, and any other things that can be in your water system.

Also, I recommend that you go to your local environmental office and tell them about this issue, because most apartment complex/buildings have to meet the local environmental codes.
